I wanna share my replacement for caffeine in the morning: it’s called chicory and sometimes it comes in a tea bag.

A large mold-stained Cow Tales mug holds a large portion of chicory tea

this one is vanilla nut and doesn’t even advertise chicory, which i think is a shame for chicory representation because this is a good tea. I feel buzzed and ready to start my day.

What gives chicory its energy boost if it doesn’t have caffeine? Something you may be familiar with if youre a chocolate addict: Theobromine! That’s right, you can drop caffeine in the morning for theobromine without gaining a ton of weight from chocolate! Considering most sources of theobromine are nauseating, this is a relief on the stomach. I haven’t thrown up all morning, which is the other desired effect of drinking this. Plus hydrating it encourages me to drink a lot of water in the morning making my big cup of chicory.

So how does theobromine feel compared to caffeine? And why would I want to seek out this dirty coffee replacement? I can say as someone withdrawing from meds and pain issues, theobromine feels better on my body. It doesn’t increase my crisis level like caffeine. If caffeine is suddenly turning on you and you can’t manage to quit because you need the energy this is a GREAT option for you to at least give a fair shot. Maybe theobromine is worse for you than caffeine, maybe caffeine still works great for you, i’m not talking to the people who caffeine works great for, im talking to the people who have issues with caffeine but just can’t stop; it’s worth a try.

Caffeine addiction has been a nightmare for me with caffeine turning on me, but the alternative is a flat dead ass brain that can’t think. Chicory isn’t a dirty word, is not “cheap inferior coffee” it’s a coffee replacement. By the time chicory stops being a bad word for you and caffeine starts being a bad word you’ll get it. There’s no reason for the marketing around chicory to hide that it’s chicory. I think we need to destigmatize chicory until companies aren’t ashamed to advertise that they’re selling chicory. I know I kind of want to know if my tea is going to give me a theobromine rush??? “Natural energy” doesn’t cut it, that’s not advertising the magic of chicory, just say chicory tea/coffee.
